China's door industry has developed rapidly, offering a comprehensive range of products. While the global financial crisis of 2009 caused varying degrees of decline across many sectors, the wooden door segment of China's door industry maintained a growth rate of 30%, with its output value exceeding 70 billion yuan in 2010. Among electric door products, market demand for industrial doors, garage doors, and rolling shutter doors grew at rates of 20% to 30%; in 2009, total annual sales of automatic doors—primarily sliding and revolving doors—reached 2 billion yuan. Statistics indicate the presence of 102 domestic brands, 20 major manufacturers, and 11 international brands within mainland China. While foreign brands currently hold the advantage in the high-end market, they share the market share equally with domestic brands in the mid-range segment.

According to the latest statistics from the China Construction Metal Structure Association, the annual output value of China's door industry exceeds 100 billion yuan.

Amidst the rapid expansion of China's door industry, a number of major leading enterprises have emerged. For instance, Beijing Rishang Industry & Trade Co., Ltd. pioneered the application of nano-photographic transfer printing technology and programmed processing techniques in the building materials sector. Its innovative 'steel-plate wood-carving' technology set a new precedent for security doors; this advancement not only drove the evolution of security doors in terms of both aesthetics and structure but also holds significant research value for other industries, marking a major breakthrough in China's construction materials sector and filling a gap in the domestic door industry. In March of this year, over 20 Chinese enterprises participated in the Nuremberg International Building Materials Exhibition in Germany, showcasing Chinese products and corporate images.

Yao Bing, President of the China Construction Metal Structure Association, noted that although China's door industry has grown rapidly in recent years, a distinct gap remains compared to the world's leading door companies. Sweden's ASSA ABLOY Group, for example, is a veritable 'aircraft carrier' in the industry; it currently operates nearly 110 factories and over 180 wholly-owned and joint-venture subsidiaries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, employing 30,000 people worldwide, generating over US$5 billion in total sales, and managing a portfolio of nearly 100 international brands.

He emphasized that the vast Chinese market holds the potential for further development within the country's door industry. In China alone, the market for residential doors is valued at approximately 270 billion yuan annually, a figure that rises further when industrial and commercial doors are included. However, compared to their overseas counterparts, Chinese brands lag significantly behind; there is a pressing need to strengthen brand competitiveness relative to renowned international names. As market demands for doors become increasingly sophisticated, manufacturers can no longer rely on meeting only traditional standards. Beyond basic functions—such as isolation, shielding, security, and operability—doors must now align with the principles of the circular and low-carbon economies. This shift represents a key opportunity for the revitalization and growth of the door industry.

Analysts emphasize that environmental sustainability is crucial for the long-term development of door products. National industrial policies and the public's desire for a higher quality of life both mandate a focus on this area. Environmental considerations apply across the entire lifecycle of a door, including manufacturing processes, material selection, and actual usage. Yet, in the manufacturing stage, many enterprises—including some large-scale ones—still struggle with issues such as poor environmental conditions, excessive dust, strong odors, and failure to meet environmental compliance standards. Data indicates that doors and windows, as vital components of a building's envelope, account for over 30% of total building energy consumption; consequently, energy efficiency in doors and windows is a critical factor that cannot be overlooked in the broader effort to save energy in buildings.
